Half Double Done.... Double Crochet: Day 1

The half double crochet...what can I say.
I NAILED IT! In one day...ONE DAY...I managed to create one beautiful sample piece (seen in my last entry), and also, one totally rockin' orange bracelet.
This bracelet was fun to make. I used, you guessed it...the half double crochet. Then, to edge it, I did a single crochet. (Surprisingly, the single stitch was fairly easy to work with this time.) I was absolutely shocked at how quickly I got this bracelet done.
"And how quickly did you finish, Michael?"
Hmmm...well, glad you asked, my friends.
I finished this bracelet in a total of half an hour. Now, I know some may think this is a long time. But hey...back off. I am new to this whole thing. Remember?
So...why did I want to make a bracelet? Well, two reasons, really. One: I wanted to practice working the half-double without my book in front of me. I am proud to say that, after making my sample piece yesterday, I was confident enough to make this bracelet without pulling my workbook out of my craft bag. (I am totally friggin' stoked about how quickly I managed to master this stitch.) Second reason: I wanted to make this bracelet to wear, each and every day, for the remainder of The Yarn Project. Kind of like that 'ribbon around the finger' thing. It also will help me, I think...when I start running into the parts of this project that make me want to burn all my yarn, and books. I will be able to look at this bracelet...made the same day I first learned the stitch used to make it. And, it will give me hope. This orange yarn will talk to me. (No, not in a I'm totally PSYCHO way. More of an ispirational way.) It will tell me to not give up. It will tell me to go on.
So now, I leave behind the half double. So long, super simple stitch. I am happy to have worked with you. I know we will meet again. TTFN!
Now, I go to double crochet. Part of me thinks that this will be as easy to learn as the half double. Part of me thinks that I will NAIL this stitch, too...relatively quickly. But, I musn't be too cocky. Let us not forget where my cocky attitude led me when I was working with the single crochet. (It took me straight to YARN HELL!) I must go into this humble...give respect to the stitch I am attempting to learn. (I think that the stitches are like friends. If you are respectful, they will work with you. If you take advantage, however...well. They will bitch slap you, and leave you crying in the mud.)
So, here I come, double crochet. Please be nice to me. I am your student...your friend. Work with me. Show me your style.
Please...oh, please, double crochet. Be gentle.
Happy crocheting!
